The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Office of Autism Research Coordination (OARC) is pleased to invite you to attend our annual special event to recognize National Autism Awareness Month. We will be hosting a Panel Presentation featuring speakers from Sesame Workshop (http://www.sesameworkshop.org/what-we-do/our-initiatives/autism/), the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, and a meet-and-greet with a costumed Julia character, the Sesame Street Muppet who has autism. Sesame Workshop speakers Jeanette Betancourt Ed.D., Mindy Fila, and Autumn Zitani, M.A., will share the story behind the creation of Julia, the first autistic Muppet, and discuss Sesame’s work to increase public understanding of autism and serve autistic children and their families.
